Thank you so much for suggesting this book. I "devoured" it. It left me very unsettled. As a woman who has had my ups and downs with my weight, there were frightening realities in this book.

At first I was really offended that the Professor and staff likened everyone to a cow or pig, until I realized that he was just verbalizing what had gone through my head for my entire life.

There was also a part of me that thought maybe that would be the answer. If I went to a "Camp" like that it would be the magic pill. The reality of savoring the chicken bones and orange rinds is scary. It is an addiction. The act of eating is socially acceptable, but the result is not. So many people use food as their medicine and their escape.

Probably the lines that hit me the hardest were the last two. When Marina is speaking of beginning a maintenance plan when she gets home, but first she is having pizza, "One slice, just one. Or maybe two."

We put ourselves through torture to lose weight and then reward ourselves with food when we succeed. Ninety five percent of people who lose weight, gain it back and then some. It is a vicious cycle.

Again, thank you for this book. It had a profound effect on me. It was the most realistic book on the "food fight" that I have ever read.

Would love to read this. It sounds like something other than most ugly duckling to beautiful swan plots. As someone who has battled with this particular "addiction", habit, or excuse for most of my life, it will be an interesting read. I'll let you know what I think about it. Thanks Cathy.
