Dear Catherine,

I'm proud to be one of the twelve to fourteen books you read--not skim--every month. I wouldn't, myself, pick up a book like my "Down the Up Escalator" if it were merely an essay about what went wrong with the economy. I'm so glad you see it as a bit of writing. That's certainly what I work at.

By the way, I too started with Dick and Jane then I progressed to Nancy Drew. In a way she remains my model detective. I love plot and I try to use her sense of discovery to keep my stories moving along. Though I must admit that my economic mysteries are morphing away Nancy Drew in Eric Ambler.

Thanks again, Barbara Garson
