In reply to Jennine G.. Not a cult- an old, established religion like Quakers. I may not have done a good job describing it! Many of their practices are very unusual but bottom-line they took a very simple straightforward interpretation of the Bible.

In reply to Kelly from Readlately.com. Not uncharitable- I can see why you would say that- partly my fault for not making it clear that this takes place in 1848. Basically it was a mystery wrapped around the Shaker religion, which is not a cult, but is virtually extinct. I liked learning about their lifestyle and it was so well-written.

Wow, sounds really strange. Is it kinda cult-like? There’s an area nearby called Shaker Woods. It’s used as a huge craft show site that crafters come to from all over the nation, but I wonder what the history of it is now.

In reply to Andi (@estellasrevenge). I am the same way! By halfway through the book I had started looking up info on the Shakers. Unusual but sad religion! Namely, because one of their main tenets is celibacy! Because of this there are only 3 member left in the U.S.
