I don’t know what it is, Rebecca, but something in Simpson’s writing just struck a chord with me. I found it very touching- and you’re right about his mother and Eli.

Isi- it’s charming because it deals so much with what it is like to be a teenager but it is sad when they discover more than they meant to.

I thought it was reminiscent of a Harriet the Spy, but not as humorous and for guys. I liked how Mona Simpson structured the story, which was unique. And it was kind of a tragic story, too, with Eli and the mother.

I think so, Jennine. There’s no explicit content- it’s more about being young and wanting to know what’s going on with the grown-ups but really, you should leave it alone. It’s funny, quirky, and tender. I loved it.
