What a beautiful cover! I was disappointed when I saw that the cover said “A Novel” because I was hoping for non-fiction and then I was excited all over again when I read that this was based in fact. I also love dual narratives, although I think I’d probably dislike the things you disliked about the present day story. I’ll think about this one 🙂

Your review makes me wish this was just a non-fiction account of the apartment, rather than trying to weave stories from two time periods together! The place sounds fascinating, really.

Wow, the existence of that place is amazing! I’m going to Google it and read up about it. Sounds like a great basis for a book, even with the formulaic parts!

I get frustrated when I novel has both a historical and modern plot, and one is great but the other just doesn’t do it. Most of the times the author is trying to bring together some connection between the two time periods, but has a hard time writing in a modern voice and I just wish they hadn’t!
