I feel like Hausfrau is my most recent “it’s not you, it’s me” book. Everyone else seemed to adore it!

Cynthia- I worried about that line because, as you know, I don’t often post negative reviews. In this case hoped it would be taken lightly, as I’m comparing myself to George Costanza! I would love to be a writer of novels but do not have the discipline and courage.

I’m sure I’ll make enemies with this statement but I feel as if the ones of greatest concern are the self-published. Everyone needs an editor and not everyone is meant to publish a book.

“in which case, of course, they must be ignored completely.” Snort! You are so funny, Catherine! Not being a writer of novels must be so freeing as a reviewer. It adds an extra element of hand-wringing when one aspires to be both and doesn’t wish to offend or make enemies.

SO had to find a truly good book lately. You are right, it is subjective, but still, how are so many bad ones getting published – and repped by agents, no less???

I think this is a really nice way to feature books you didn’t love. I feel like your reviews are fair and balanced and they highlight things that might make other people like these books even though you didn’t.

Totally agree on A Bad Character. I feel like there was a ton of potential, especially with her amazing writing, and it just didn’t dig into so many of the threads she set up.

I went through a phase like this not long ago and it’s excruciating. I think it might even be worse than actually hating the books because there are reasons to!

This is a great mini-review idea, because yeah, those “meh” books where it’s obvious it’s just not a good fit are sooo hard to write about. You still pinpointed what it was that didn’t work for you, though!
