You're right. I chuckle when I visit family in Wisconsin who just let water stream down the drain while washing dishes, counters, etc. I've learned quickly in Utah to turn off when I'm not actually using it.

Great question, Cynthia! If I were still living in Utah it would have been even more difficult to read but in Seattle?! So much water- which he plays up in the book. The rest of the country really doesn't care what happens to these states.Which also seems realistic.

That's the thing about his writing, I'm finding (still working my way through The Windup Girl); he makes it all seems so plausible. It's almost, but not quite, horror. Environmental horror, maybe? The Water Knife sounds uncomfortably close to what we are experiencing. I'd love to ask him if he writes these topics just because he knows they creep in under our skin and are terrifying - or if he has some desire to give the world a good vigorous wake up shake?
Nice review, as always, Catherine.

It's a fascinating subject and reminded me of how careful we were with water when we lived in Utah. That's why it's scary- it's science fiction-y but it seems quite realistic.

WOW, Catherine! This sounds like such a great read! I remember seeing a galley for it, some months ago, and thinking that it looked good; this sounds so much better than what I remember! I find this topic both intriguing and frightening; what a thriller! I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for sharing your thoughts.
