I’ve been sort of on the fence about this book, but I’m fairly intrigued. I usually avoid books of this ilk (Patrick Ness’s MORE THAN THIS comes to mind), but I might give it a go on down the road.

I completely agree with you about this book. Once the whole is revealed I was surprised at how un-emotional it was, considering the subject matter. In other hands, in a world that maybe wasn’t so bleak, this would have had me bawling my eyes out. Can’t wait for the discussion on TSS!

I’ve been hearing good things about this book, but it’s just not calling to me. I’m kind of glad to hear it’s a bit disjointed!

I know we’ve discussed this via TSS, but I really love the point you made here: “There is a sense that Oliver’s journey after death provides the peace he did not get in life.” So true.

I wasn’t a huge fan of this one either…I actually liked the world creating Smith did with heaven, but thought the plot veered into the nonsensical and bizarre. Looking forward to Socratic’s discussion!
