I really like Chris Cleave and have had this on my list forever but hadn’t actually seen anything written about it. Little Bee was ok, but I loved Incendiary and Gold. There is a lot of WWII fiction out there and it’s probably the genre that I get most fatigued of…but I’m totally reading this as soon as I can get my hands on it. Cleave is just one of the best.

Catherine, I’m not sure that the story really appeals to me, but your review definitely does! You should be writing for the publishing houses; I’ve decided that you could sell nearly ANY book because I always want to read the ones you review (and enjoyed) after I read your beautiful comments. In reply to Kathy @ Kathy Reads Fiction. I'm the same way! As annoying as I found Mary, I did have to credit her in the end for being much stronger than she appeared- which is all due to Cleave's writing. Still, I heard from others that Little Bee did not work as well.

Oh, I absolutely loved this book! I’ve heard mixed things about Little Bee but after reading this one, I would love to read his other work, too.

I picked this one up at BEA and am really looking forward to reading it. I really enjoyed Little Bee when I read that one a few years ago. Thanks for your great review.
