He seems like a very interesting man. In one of my earlier drafts of this review I used a quote of his that the novel is “about death” and I said I felt like it did have a philosophical feel to it. But then he’s irreverent as well! I love that he can combine all those aspects.

It is touching and painful with a large cast of characters, but Saunders intersperses the pain with humor and…it works. Really well!

Saunders truly did an amazing job with this book. It makes me want to know more about him. What is Saunders like in his day-to-day life? I liked so much of the story, but felt it bogged down in the middle with all the spirits in the Bardo and their many, many stories. I would have rather known fewer spirits, but in greater depth.
