Her descriptions of this age, as you’ve mentioned, were just spot on in so many instances and I love her no-nonsense style.

The opening pages about middle school were my favorite.

The mother was interesting. I was never quite certain that she even liked being a mother. Maybe she was just being honest.

I thought where she shined brightest was her descriptions of middle school…especially the social dynamics. And how you can instantly become “middle school famous” for such bizarre reasons. Also loved how she shared the mother’s not so generous thoughts.

I didn’t like this as much as her short story collection, but sounds like I did like it more than you did. 4 stars for me.
