In reply to <a href="https://gilmoreguidetobooks.com/2017/08/august-reading-wrap/#comment-282667">susan</a>.

Maybe it's because we're so close to water. We've been quite dry, no rain in over a month, but not a lot of heat. Our lawn is dead- or resting, if you will, but that's normal for summer here. Once it rains it will come right back in the fall. Whatever the reason, I love it!

Yeah I was too busy in August to focus a lot on reading. Mine suffered quite a bit too, but I hope to get back on the wagon. It's hard to believe you've had a considerably mild summer there with temps. We've been burning up here in Calgary like in the 80s for July & August with no rain, which is really unusual. Very smoky too. I think it might be the hottest / & driest summer here on record. I'm trying to keep the yard alive still. Enjoy your September!

I'm with you on the reading this summer. For me there have been far too many books that were just okay, and that doesn't even count the DNF's. And our weather this summer...perfection! I'm hoping for at least another month of it.

I read Davis's debut, The Dollhouse, last summer and found it okay, but when I saw that The Address was following much the same structure (dual timelines, a woman in each, a famous NYC building) I decided to skip it.

Quicksand was more engaging for me than you and I actually found Maja to be sympathetic. I know that seems a little weird considering her crime.

Here's to better fall reading!

So I'm laughing at your 3 star rating vs. my 3 star rating. Seems you liked Quicksand and are recommending it...but my 3 star means I could easily get through a book, but that I'm not recommending it to others. Haha!

Anyway - glad Quicksand was somewhat enjoyable for you and sorry about all the others!
