I just finished the audiobook of this novel which was quite fun and "out there." I'm still trying to figure out how to explain it: something like: it's about a magical sourdough starter that takes this girl's life in various directions ... hmm. Half way through I was like who is this Robin Sloan ... I found the novel to be pretty creative and an ode to great bread ... I think I probably need to find his first book too now. Glad you enjoyed it.

I hear you! When I lived in NYC and had no money I used to buy a loaf of freshly baked sourdough and a stick of butter and that was dinner. Warm bread and butter is one of the best!

That is exactly what this book is! The book I started after it was SO dark and negative that I DNFed it. Maybe we're getting too much of that in reality so need light in our reading?

But the eating is the best part! I guess I wrote it off to the way any creative person views their work, like authors who say their characters talk to them.

I shouldn't be reading this while I'm hungry. Now I really want some sourdough! I know, off topic. This sounds like the perfect book for a change of pace. I'm starting to find more value in the breathing room of "lighter" books.

I think I would've been less bothered by the whole faces in the bread and singing to the bread if I'd been more familiar with artisanal bakers? Other than just eating their concoctions...
