That is the perfect word! I could absolutely see this as a movie. It was so dark, but by at the end, in a twisted way, there was real beauty.

This is southern Appalachia so, as I’m not from the area, I don’t know if it makes a big difference. My sense was a community stuck in the economic downturn but the only way out is to accept new, big development. It’s largely a character driven novel.

I liked it more than Eden even though it was more brutal. I thought the ending was beautiful.
