It’s a fun escape and aside from the premise not a lot of fantasy, which I loved.

I haven’t read any other Matt Haig, I’ll have to take a look!

In reply to Tara. Thank you. I may just be one of those people who get jarred by grammatical issues- even if I don't follow the rules in my own writing. It was not my kind of book.

Okay I’ll have to temper my expectations with this one. I’ll probably still read it when I need something light etc. though often feel-good novels dont often work on me. We’ll see.

I just read another rave review of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and I think I”ll prioritize that one! The Midnight Library has gotten a lot of great reviews too but from what you say it also has some things that particularly annoy me, like stilted language. I’m going to give it a miss for now. Have you read any of Matt Haig’s memoirs? I wondered if those might be of more interest to me.

After all of the rave reviews, and its win in the Goodreads awards this year, I decided to borrow a copy of this one and while I enjoyed my reading experience, overall, it didn’t WOW me the way I’d expected. As you said, it was good but not great! I hadn’t made the connection you have between the feel of the book and the author’s British grammar/writing style; what an insightful observation!
