It is the same main character- Jack. I didn’t even realize it when I discussed it on Sarah’s podcast! You definitely don’t need one for the other and your husband is right- the ending is a bit dramatic.

My husband just finished the Guide and liked it well enough … and says it’s a quick read and that he writes well. (But that the ending was a bit overboard.) Absolutely! I was torn on my rating for those very reasons. On the one hand, a decade ago I would have said ‘No way is something like this happening’ and on the other, I wouldn’t be incredibly surprised anymore. Which is kind of depressing.

It was 4.5 stars for me because I thought the ending felt a bit rushed and perhaps implausible but the mixture of the gorgeous nature writing and the unsettling (but very close to home) post Covid setting still made it a win for me!
