It was fascinating even as it made me angry. Her 10-year-old daughter suffered the most because she was made responsible for the house and the other children. Plus, the husband told the daughter that the mother just ran off, poisoning her mind against her mother. Disgusting.

To be thought of and treated like a mans property, how awful. I saw something similar happen in the census records of my maternal grandfather’s family and wondered about why this women was in an asylum. Could of been another instance like this it was in the same era of time.
