I’m always appreciative of fiction that shows me new things, even if they’re unpleasant truths. This is beautifully done, but not overly sweet.

The Sympathizer was outstanding, but you’re right, these are very different. Although, her first book was about a North Vietnamese family so there’s probably a bit of parallel with Sympathizer.

I’m glad you liked her 2nd novel too. Yeah I need to go back and read Book 1 of hers. I often like Vietnam stories. My last one was The Sympathizer which I’m sure is quite different than this author’s.
