Yeah the first part has some funny parts, and the second part worked its way into my heart. It is a unique novel and took me awhile to get accustomed to. Like poetry.

In reply to Nicole. It caught me by surprise, but a friend had said she read it when she needed calm and while the second half is melancholy there's a beauty to it as well.

I really liked this book. What a beautiful writer. I’d heard about the book from a podcast and so happy to have picked it up and listened on Libby. The second half of the novel really moved me as the disease of Alzheimer’s took such hold on not just Alice, but her family. So poetic is Otsuka and I really enjoyed her writing so much that I quickly grabbed up her other two books and listened as well.
