Scotton lives in my current town, and will be at the indie bookshop in my soon-to-be town, so I figured I should be interested for supporting local business alone… that, and I love a good coming-of-age story. And the Appalachian setting is appealing, to boot. Glad to hear it stands up!

I absolutely loved this book — finished it on January 1, so it’s my first book of the year. I think it will end up being one of my favorites of the year. My only disappointment with the book (and it’s minor) is that I wanted to know more about Kevin’s mother. She was practically catatonic throughout most of the book, and then, at the very end, we learn something about her (which I don’t want to reveal here). I wish I had known more about the in-bertween; Scotton did this successfully with Buzzy. Our staff book club chose this for our January book and we’re discussing it in a couple of weeks; I can’t wait to hear everyone’s thoughts.
