Exactly. And what you do with this column is far from a hatchet job. What irks one of us in a book attracts others, so I just appreciate the honesty. It just helps that I usually feel the same way. So thanks and keep 'em coming!

No, it's not horrible- it's flattering and I appreciate it! None of us want to do a hatchet job and I like writing about books I love, but I also like hearing the books that aren't likely to work for me, from bloggers I trust.

Is it horrible to say I love this column? With so many things to read it's often nice to be able to cross a few things off the TBR, or at least give them a little side-eye. In this case, I had been on the fence about The Good Lieutenant and you helped push me over. So thank you. I just had to give up on a read that gave me the exact same feeling. I love some non-traditional or experimental stuff, but don't make me work so darn hard!

Thank you- you are too kind! And damn funny. I'm glad you get the Seinfeld reference- plenty of people don't. This is why we need someplace quieter than BEA to have a cocktail and talk!

You know I love your reviews. They are my favorites. I want to quit the book blogging world after reading each one. But I especially luuuurve this feature!! Maybe it's the snippets. Maybe it's the Seinfeld reference. Maybe it's the eloquent snark. Ok- it's all of it.

I ended up walking away from Smoke. I couldn't stay with the story and ended up confused every time I picked it up. The premise was interesting and I think I was expecting something frothy-er. It is too heavy for reading in a hammock.

Ha! I just finished reading We Could Be Beautiful today! I loved it! :) You just never know how each reader will resonate with each book! :)

Thanks, Lynn! I read We Could be Beautiful and didn't care for it. The main character felt like a caricature but it wasn't written as satire so I didn't like it. The Good Lieutenant is interesting from the aspect of a female commander in war. I just wish he would have focused more on that- the mental/emotional aspects of it.

Interesting! I actually bought Smoke since I can't get it from the library and the discussion in Doubleday's Keep Turning Pages GoodReads group fascinated me to the point that I just have to read it to see what I think! Just started one I think you would enjoy! It is We Coukd Be Beautiful by Swan Huntley. It's a debut. At 17 pages in I am intrigued. The Terrell sounds very unique. If I had time I would give it a go just to see what I think! Too bad it didn't work for you. What We Become has a fascinating premise. Too bad it didn't work better for you! Always enjoy reading your thoughts!
