Tanya, it is interesting and a quick read, but I do not get the title. The book takes place in China and no on wants to be a North Korean. Maybe you can figure it out!

Definitely, I preferred it over this. Much more focused on NorthKorea whereas this takes place in China.

Apparently, it’s the same in South Korea. They are so behind the times they can’t begin to fit in. As for the prejudices, it sounded a lot like how illegals are treated here- no rights and you’re dirt.

I can see that, Sarah! In fact, I really wonder about the title of the book- it has nothing to do with that. If you’re looking for North Korean fiction The Orphanmaster’s Son is amazing.

That of course could be blamed on my brain getting geared up for Olympics watching 🙂

I also didn’t realize the focus would be on escaping North Korea and life in China…I was kind of longing for more on life in North Korea.

But I gave it 3 stars
