In reply to Kathy @ Kathy Reads Fiction. There were twists in the plot, but only one worked. The other felt like a stretch. And the fact that the mother was such a caricature turned me off.

I love art fiction as well. I can think of even more than the ones we’ve both mentioned!

I thought Umansky wrote really well, but, for whatever reason, Carrie’s story did not affect me in the way Rose’s did.

That’s surprises me about The Trophy Child. I had the same notion as you about what the book would be about from the title. I’ve seen great ratings for it, but I don’t think it will be one I read.

I totally get what you’re saying about feeling like you’ve read the story of THE FORTUNATE ONES before (and having read similar stories that were told better, or more emotionally weighty) — but I feel like I enjoy those kinds of stories so much I enjoy them all. And I was very moved by both the women’s stories. I loved THE ART FORGER and THE IMPROBABILITY OF LOVE AND TECHNO — I’ll definitely have to read TUESDAY NIGHTS IN 1980, since it’s one that set the bar so high for you!
