In reply to Susie | Novel Visits. That the best part of Homsin for me as well- the depiction of the refugee crisis. It' so far beyond anything we'll ever experience. So far so good in October! I finished Alice Hoffman's latest and absolutely adored it and am now reading and loving Laurie Frankel's This is How it Always Is.

Sorry to hear Manhattan Beach wasn’t better, ugh! I had that one on my list. Gosh there is so much marketing or hype surrounding it — I may try it. As audios, I recently enjoyed Graham Norton’s novel Holding and Allen Eskens’s novel The Life We Bury. Both were not too heavy and entertaining. Now I’m reading The History of Wolves. I’m so with you on some of these disappointing books. The Exact Nature of Out Wrongs, I thankfully quit on fairly early, but for some reason I just kept going with Manhattan Beach. Ugh!

I loved Exit West, but I listened to it and I think that made a huge difference. Hamid himself narrated and did a fabulous job. I never really felt that Nadia and Saeed were a couple meant to go the distance, but instead were there to help the other through a trying time in their lives. I though Hamid’s commentary on the refugee crisis was wonderful. It may make my top ten list this year.

Please, let’s both have better Octobers!
