Oh no! I'm sure you're not losing your mind, but I read this so long ago I have no idea what happened at the end. I reread my review, though, and I said I had no idea what happened so maybe that was on purpose? We're not meant to know?

I'm totally confused! The last sentence of the book, at the WEDDING OF LARS AND PIP. PIP states: "As the service begins, the room disappears and it's just me, Max and Grace, and the registrar, making us all a family again."

Would you please explain this? Am I losing my mind?

If Miracle Creek is rough for you, then I think this would be too much. She writes it so real. I don't have children, but there were moments when I thought 'how would any parent survive this?'.

It sounds rough, too rough for me. And I liked her debut I Let You Go. Does she leave the ending open-ended? I'm having trouble now with the explosion in Miracle Creek .... & the kids in there.

I think it depends on your mood. It wasn't as difficult as other novels I've read about complicated issues, but it did make me think. It just doesn't seem like a summer release!

I don't have any of the circumstances you have right now and I still sections of it difficult. If you did have time to read it without reviewing it, it's very thought provoking.

This sounds really good. Normally I might read it, but I have some dear friends who lost their daughter and since then I've been assigned a couple of books that deal with a child dying and I don't even feel right posting about it for fear they will see it. It's silly, because it's not like they would be "reminded" of her death, they can't escape the fact, but I just can't see clear to doing it. I suppose I could read this just for me, but really, what are the odds of that? I'm going to add it to the list, however.

Thoughtful review, Catherine. You made me consider some points I hadn't thought of. Did you read in the author's notes the Mackintash had a child that died very young of something similar? Obviously, the jumping off point for this book.

I've seen a lot of buzz about this book. I'm tempted to skip it because of the emotional torture I'm sure it will cause. I wasn't a huge fan of I Let You Go either.
