I felt the same way. I don’t think I’m a prude, but hurting yourself through sex is not something I need to read.

I thought the marketing of it was quite wrong! But I’m glad Queenie finally gets the therapy and help she needs to start to rebuild her life. It was darker in the first half than I ever imagined it would be. I just reviewed this one on my site too.

Agreed. The damage ran deep. It was just hard for me to read how accepting she was of the way she was treated juxtaposed against the fun, breezy attitudes with her friends.

I can see that- and I did feel that way, by the end. I really think it is a case of my age/generation. The sexual situations got to be too much for me.

Probably because I was frustrated with Queenie for some of the choices she made… until I found that the reveal of how deeply depressed and anxious she was made those poor choices make more sense to me… I loved how this book dealt with mental illness in a family and/or community that didn’t really make it easy for her to talk about her mental illness. But yes, all that stuff about the abuse from men really got to me!
