Exactly. I felt it was too surface. I put the book down for almost a week before picking it back up which is not a good sign.

I went into the novel completely blind so I was very shocked when he died early on. I’m wondering if he lived if there would have been much of a story? I’m curious if Naima Coster played around with different options or if she knew from the get go that he was going to die a violent death.
