The Sackler family still denies responsibility. They're like the NRA with the "guns don't kill people, people do" BS. Thankfully, a judge overturned the ruling allowing their family money to be exempt from lawsuits. About time.

Oh, Laila, I don't know how you stand that. I even have a booster shot, but wear a mask in public at all times.

I'd just like more positive than negative this year, but even that feels like too much to ask.

Nowhere Girl would be a great book club book!

I'm terrible at picking one favorite of anything which is why I always have to do "favorites". 2021 was a pretty great year for reading. Not much else, but reading was fun.

I like your list. Empire of Pain must be totally top-notch ... it blows me away how the author got to the heart of that whole crisis & how it began & kept going. I'm curious too about Sorrow & Bliss ... and if the humor is quite good in it? Everyone's mental health journey could be helped by some humor right? And humor is not always easily captured in novels ...

I am with you on the tasering comment!! Come on!!

I have only read 1 of these books - Sorrow & Bliss - and it was one of my favorites of 2021, too. I always have a hard time picking my favorites of the year and it's been harder the last several years as I've read way more books that I used to - 125+ this year, pre-kids I read about 80. It's so strange that I read more now that I have kids but I guess it's narrowed down what I can do and the pandemic further limited what we can do. I'm considering suggesting Nowhere Girl for book club in 2022 as you and Sarah have both raved about it!
