Yes, you have it correct! His father takes Robert by the end of the book and its been four years since she has seen him, so we the readers don’t get to see the reunion if it happens. but I also believe that Robert will choose reunite with Frances when he is a little bit older.

Isn’t Quindlen marvelous? I could hardly relate to it in that time period- although how different is it even now?

I want to believe that when Robert becomes an adult he finds her, but I may not be remembering the ending correctly.

It made me feel deeper than any book has ever made me feel. Thankfully this is not a story I can personally relate to. What do you think happens after the book’s ending? Yes! I started reading her with her novel Every Last One and it was heartbreaking and un-putdownable. She is a go-to author for me.
