Sunday Sentence: This is the Story of a Happy Marriage

August 4, 2013

Sunday Sentence: The best sentence(s) from this week, out of context and without commentary. Inspired by David Abrams at The Quivering Pen.

This is the story of a happy marriage
Harper, November 2013 (sorry!)

Think of a sink pipe filled with sticky sediment. The only way to get clean water is to force a small ocean through the tap. Most of us are full up with bad stories, boring stories, self-indulgent stories, searing works of unendurable melodrama. We must get them all out of our system in order to find the good stories that may or may not exist in the freshwater underneath. -This is the Story of a Happy Marriage by Ann Patchett

Oh man, I love Ann Patchett. I was a little reluctant on this one because I have such a hard time with short stories, but if it’s more of an essay collection then I bet I would really dig it.

I’m the same way, Shannon, but this reads like a memoir/essays. Especially the parts about writing. One more author who inspires me!
