If you’re still pining over the end of another Downton Abbey season or simply mired in the March doldrums, then how about a giveaway to make you smile? I reviewed Ashenden (and loved it) earlier this year. It is like Downton Abbey but from the perspective of the estate and is a lively, engaging read full of intrigue and scandal (upstairs and downstairs) that will keep you occupied while it’s snowing/raining. And what goes better with a great new book than a lovely cup of green tea (from T Jones) to fight off the last of this winter’s chill.
All you need to do is leave a comment telling me what you’re reading right now to fill up the Downton TV void or to get you through winter and into spring. One winner will be chosen at random on March 22nd. I can’t wait to hear from you!
I’m 4 chapters into Ashenden as I write this. I missed the Downton frenzy until a week ago when I had the occasion to see all of the first season. It has sent me on a quest to learn more about the time period as my Scottish great grandparents worked as housemaid and gardener on an estate in England. My grandfather worked in the estate office of the Duke of Sutherland at Dunrobin Castle. When he was transferred to the Shropshire (England) estate, he elected to leave Britain altogether and sailed from Liverpool to eventually light in Fresno, California in his Scottish woolens. I’m thoroughly enjoying another peek at life “downstairs” to paint a picture in my own mind of the context in which he made the choice to start over in the states. Thanks for the reco!
I’m reading Jane Austin!
I am reading The Great Gatsby…About time I’d say… 😉
I am reading Surprised by Joy by CS Lewis for our faculty book club. Thanks for hosting the book giveaway!
I’m reading Me Before You
Have to admit, since I was on vacation, I’ve been reading total junk. Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, then Size 12 Is Not Fat by Meg Cabot, then A Summer in Europe by Marilyn Brant, and finally Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. Loved having a week to read!
