Favorite Debuts of 2013

December 30, 2013

If you’ve stumbled on this because you’re looking for the prettiest (and/or richest) debutantes of 2013 then you’ve got the wrong blog. Which doesn’t mean you can’t stay (please do!) but although I love all things girly and fashionable I’m writing about the best debut authors of 2013. So, even though there is bling in this list, it is the literary sparkle of outstanding writing —from new voices, some of whom are so young I could be their mother aunt slightly older sister. I may be living proof that age doesn’t automatically bring wisdom but this group makes it clear that wisdom (and oh-so-much talent!) can be found at many ages.

Here then, in no particular order, are my favorite debuts from 2013. Clicking on the title will take you to the review- enjoy!

Favorite Debuts

The Night Rainbow

The Death of Bees

Too Bright to Hear Too Loud to See

Cartwheel

Crazy Rich Asians

Golden Boy

When Captain Flint Was Still a Good Man

Dear Lucy

Tomorrow There Will be Apricots

Burial Rites

I agree with so many of your choices. You and everyone else has been recommending Burial Rites, which didn’t even flash on my radar. I guess it’s time to add it to my TBR.

Yay, Burial Rites! That’s the only book I’ve read from your list, but most of them are on my TBR list!

You come up with a lot of titles that aren’t known to me, Catherine. I really like that. It’s refreshing to read about books that haven’t already been touted everywhere else, sometimes. Where do you get your titles?
Hope 2014 holds some good reading in store for you!
