It’s Monday, May 25th: What are You Reading?

May 25, 2015

what are you reading

I decided that since so many of you would be enjoying one more day in a long weekend, it might be nice to check in and ask: what are you reading? Because even though it is probably beautiful and sunny where you are, you are reading on your day off, right? Right?!

It’s OK, I’m probably not reading right now either. I’m most likely working on putting a home back together or trying to get organized to move. However, I’m happy to report that the reading slump I went through earlier in the year is over and I’ve read a lot of great things recently, including Neverhome which was a 5 star book for me. Here’s what I’m reading this Monday and what lies ahead this week.

Monday

It has been so long since I’ve read Judy Blume but who can ever forget Are You There God? ? The first time I read a book where I thought, ‘this person knows me’ and at that age, that’s what matters most. Imagine my excitement to see that her latest, In the Unlikely Event,  is for adults. I’m really hoping this is a good as it looks.

monday

All the Birds, Singing came out last year and while I saw a lot of great reviews about I didn’t get a chance to read it. Now it is going to be discussed at The Socratic Salon on June 10th so I thought the time was right to try it. Especially based on the reviews of blogger I trust like River City Reading,  and The Steadfast Reader.

what are yo ureading

I don’t know much about The Unfortunates but the blurb sounded like it might be the kind of light reading to kick off the summer.

That’s it for me. It’s Monday: what are you reading?!

Judy Blume!! I know Harper Lee’s new book is coming out this summer, but for me Judy Blume is the publishing event I’ve been waiting for.
And I need to know what you think of The Unfortunates. I started it this weekend and it’s not working for me. It may be because i have a tremendous head cold, but it could be the book. I need to know your opinion.

Boo to the cold! I thought The Unfortunates looked light- so might be good after All the Birds.

So glad you’re reading All the Birds, Singing! It’s such a strange, atmospheric book…I’m wondering how you’ll end up liking it. I think I’m going to pick it up again soon, too.

All the Birds SO GOOD! I’m so highly anticipating the new Judy Blume! I think I’ve read nearly all her other books, and she was a staple for me growing up! Can’t wait to hear what to think, and to get my grabby hands on it ASAP! Moving is the pits, so hopefully it goes well for you 🙂

All the Birds, Singing remains at the top of my wishlist. I read the sample and liked it, so it looks like good things ahead. I’m reading Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan and The Argonauts by Maggie Nelson.

I recently finished The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry and loved it. Now I’m reading a nonfiction book called Dead Wake, by Erik Larsen. So far, it’s terrific!

Erik Larson does such a great job with historical events. I really liked Dead Wake.

I wondered about The Unfortunates and toyed with the idea of requesting it. Let me know how you like it! Definitely want to read the others. I’ve just started Dataclysm and Americanah. 🙂

I’m looking forward to Judy Blume’s new book as well…even though I never read her growing up (I know, weird…I had my head stuck in Sweet Valley High and V.C. Andrews). The premise of her adult book sounds interesting to me and I like that it’s based on her real experience.

Just finished reading The Sleepwalkers Guide to Dancing by Mira Jacob. It was recommended by Celeste Ng when our library book group skyped with her. I loved it

I read that as well and thought it was lovely. So sad about the father and what it all meant.

April and Shannon made me want to read Evie Wyld’s book, too. It’s a book I wouldn’t have looked at twice, too. Hope you have a good reading week!

I’m going to see Judy Blume at Town Hall in Seattle in June. SO excited!

I’m currently reading A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. I’m not sure how I keep finding 700 page books.

Oh boy, A Little Life is a tough one. Amazing but tough.
